CAYUGA COUNTY, N.Y. — Auburn’s Finger Lakes Drive-In is showing off a brand new, $75,000 dollar projector.
The theater’s owners held a party Saturday night to unveil the new gear.
Owner Paul Meyer said a patron started a fundraising effort to purchase the new equipment.
So far, $13,000 has been raised, which was used as a down payment to lease the projector.
Without the change, the drive-in could have been in jeopardy, because new films are all made in the digital format.
Meyer said he is happy the change will keep a piece of Americana alive.
“The thing that’s most touching, is I get a lot of folks writing in telling me their unique and happy experiences they’ve had at the drive-in. I was surprised it meant as much to the community as it apparently does,” said Meyer.
The movie line-up included: “Planes: Fire and Rescue,” “Earth to Echo” and “Tammy.”
